Fer Lopez's two 100% stats prove he can catapult Wolves to promotion

Fer Lopez was one of the stars of the show on Friday as Wolverhampton Wanderers cruised into the Carabao Cup second round after a 4-0 victory against Port Vale.

It was a routine win for Cesar Peixoto in his first game in charge, with Adam Armstrong, Andre and Lopez all getting on the scoresheet.

Despite facing a League Two outfit, it was an impressive performance from the Old Gold side, who completely dismantled the opposition’s defence throughout.

Lopez was easily the standout player for Wolves, and has finally started to show signs of the quality fans were promised last summer when he completed his move to the club.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a return to Celta Vigo this summer, after spending the latter half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan to his former club.

However, against Port Vale, the youngster showed just how important he is set to be in Wolves’ upcoming promotion battle.

Despite Port Vale’s status as a League Two side, the club are no pushover.

Last season, Vale reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after knocking out the likes of Bristol City and Sunderland.

However, Wolves had little trouble on Friday, and much of this was thanks to Lopez.

The midfielder played a brilliant role against Port Vale and was a consistent attacking threat.

According to Fotmob on 8 August, he had two shots, with a 100 per cent accuracy, had a 0.12 xG with a 0.88 xGOT, created one chance, completed 89 per cent of his passes, completed one dribble with a 100 per cent success rate and had two touches in the opposition box.

On top of this, he also helped out defensively, as he made one tackle, one interception and five recoveries throughout.

If this type of performance can be replicated throughout the upcoming season in the Championship, then Lopez could prove to make the difference maker between Wolves winning promotion and staying in the Championship.

What were the stats from Wolves vs Port Vale?

Overall, Wolves were dominant against Port Vale.

The Old Gold side had 68 per cent possession, 16 shots, seven of which were on target, 23 touches in the opposition box, eight corners and no big chances missed.

In comparison, Port Vale had 32 per cent possession, 11 shots, three of which were on target, 19 touches in the opposition box five corners and three big chances missed.

Vale did beat Wolves in terms of xG, with a 1.93 compared to a 1.36, but much of this will be down to the penalty that they had saved.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Wolves can replicate this type of display throughout the Championship season.
