Sources: Wolves work on deal to re-sign Adama Traore
Wolverhampton Wanderers are working on a deal to re-sign their former winger Adama Traore, sources have told Football Insider.
The 30-year-old was released by West Ham United this summer after their relegation to the Championship just six months after making a move to the London Stadium.
The former Spain international is now a free agent, and Wolves are looking to pounce ahead of their own return to the Championship.
Sources say the Midlands giants are exploring a free transfer move for the wide forward, although they face strong competition for him given his availability.
Traore previously had a highly successful spell at Molineux between 2018 and 2023, where he helped oversee back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the Premier League and a return to European football.
Overall, he netted 14 times in 194 appearances in all competitions before he made a move to Fulham once his contract had expired at the Old Gold club.
The winger could now become one of Cesar Peixoto’s first signings, with the Portuguese coach expected to replace Rob Edwards in the dugout in the coming days.
Is Adama Traore good enough for the Championship?
Since his departure from Wolves, Traore found little success in the Premier League.
The winger struggled for starts at Fulham, and this trend continued at West Ham this season.
However, when examining his stats, there is plenty to suggest that he could still be a vital asset for Wolves ahead of the new Championship season.
According to Fotmob on 13 June, he averaged a 0.17 xG, a 0.14 xA, 1.19 crosses completed, 2.86 successful dribbles and 4.77 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes in the Premier League.
Given that the Championship is a step down in quality, it is likely these stats will improve as Wolves hope that he can help guide them back to the Premier League this season.
Who else are Wolves linked to?
So far this summer, Wolves have already confirmed the captures of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.
Now, reports have emerged that they are also aiming to bring in right-back Rodrigo Pinheiro.
The 23-year-old was a regular for Famalicao this season, and Peixoto has reportedly approved of the signing ahead of his expected appointment.
However, it remains to be seen if Wolves are able to secure both Pinheiro and Traore as they look to quickly return to the English top-flight.
