Wolves fans celebrate after new goalkeeper transfer update drops – ‘Get in’
Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were over the moon when it was revealed that Dan Bentley is set to move to Coventry City.
Reports emerged on Thursday that the 33-year-old goalkeeper will move to the Premier League side on a free transfer.
The deal is expected to be confirmed on Friday, which will end the player’s three-and-a-half-year stay at Molineux.
For the majority of his Wolves career, Bentley has been the third-choice goalkeeper at the club.
However, it looked like he would be Cesar Peixoto’s number one this campaign after he featured throughout pre-season and started against Blackburn Rovers last week.
When he did play, Bentley was often poor, which has led to many fans celebrating his potential departure before deadline day.
Wolves fans happy to see Dan Bentley depart
Throughout his Wolves career, Bentley has made a total of 17 appearances for the club.
However, in most of these games, he struggled, with few clean sheets being kept.
His limited ability was on show against Blackburn Rovers, with the keeper somehow not saving the visitors’ equaliser.
As a result, there were many fears among supporters that Bentley could end up costing the club promotion, with the keeper clearly not up to standard.
Therefore, when Alex Crook reported that Bentley was set to move to Coventry City, fans rejoiced at the news.
Who is set to be Wolves’ number one for the rest of the season?
Going into the Preston match on Saturday, Jose Sa is likely to return to the starting XI.
This comes amid news that Sam Johnstone is still on the sidelines, meaning Sa is the only fit first-team goalkeeper.
However, going forward, it remains to be seen who will be Peixoto’s first-choice shot-stopper.
Either Sa or Johnstone could still depart in the closing days of the transfer window, with both goalkeepers being linked away, which could allow the other to claim the number one spot.
On top of this, Wolves have been linked to a handful of goalkeepers this summer, and the club could be aiming to bring in a player to fill the first-choice role.
Nevertheless, Peixoto clearly has a big decision to make over the coming weeks as he looks to guide the club to an instant return to the Premier League.
