'We should have won' - Tottenham ace delivers verdict on Manchester United loss

By Aramide Oladipo

Tottenham ace Dele Alli is convinced that his side deserved to pick up all three points against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a 1-0 loss at Old Trafford with United substitute Anthony Martial scoring in the final ten minutes of the match to seal the win for the hosts.

Moments before, Alli, 21, had a golden opportunity to put Spurs in the lead but he steered his shot wide of the post following a fine cross from Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham have now lost 1-0 at Old Trafford in their last three consecutive Premier League visits.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the match, Alli admitted that he was frustrated with his miss but he remains defiant for the near-future.

“I’m kicking myself,” he said.

“I should have scored and I have to make sure the next time I get a chance like that I stick it away.

“It’s disappointing when you come to a place like this, you play well and you are hoping for a win or at least a draw.

“We felt we should have won really and to go to United and think you should have won shows where we are as a team.

“We competed from start to finish but that wasn’t enough for Dele – another sign of where this current squad is at.”

Alli has struggled to perform on a consistent basis at the start of the season with only three league goals to his name.

The result means that Spurs remain in third place, three points behind United and eight points behind table toppers Manchester City.

Tottenham appeared to miss top goalscorer Harry Kane who suffered a hamstring injury in the league win over Liverpool last week.

Spurs face a tough task in midweek as they welcome Champions League holders Real Madrid to Wembley.

In other Tottenham news, Harry Redknapp has revealed that he was close to signing this two-time Premier League winner when he was the Spurs boss.
