Darren Bent raved about Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves and even suggested the Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had played a blinder by hanging onto him for so long.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Aston Villa and Tottenham striker reflected on Neves’ time at the Molineux after the 22-year-old made his 100th Wolves appearance against Arsenal on Saturday.
Neves joined Wolves from Portuguese giants FC Porto in 2017 and during his 100 appearances for the club, he has scored 13 goals while assisting six.
Bent pointed out that top clubs in Europe had previously been linked to Neves and when you consider that at times he was among the best midfielders in England, then the club deserve praise for holding on to him.
When asked how great Neves has been for Wolves, Bent told Football Insider: “He’s been good, he has scored some world class goals that people will never forget.
“He’s been linked with some of the top clubs in Europe and he does really well.
“It’s a testament to Wolves that they’ve managed to hold onto him as there were times when he was one of the best midfield players in the country, he was playing at such a high level, and the fact they have managed to hold onto him and that he is still putting in good performances week-in-week-out, it’s brilliant for them.
“It has shown that Wolves is a team on the up and he has been a great servant, and the fact Wolves have managed to keep him…it’s world class as well.
“He can create goals himself out of nothing and those players are hard to come by.”
Neves has regularly featured for Wolves this season as he has already played 18 times across all competitions for them.
The holding midfielder is contracted to stay with the club until June 2023 after signing a contract extension in July 2018.
