'Worried' pundit shares 'horrible' Leeds United verdict after official club update

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie is worried for Leeds United's Premier League status going into the final weeks of the season.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the Whites could "easily" go down.

Leeds find themselves back in a relegation battle thanks to Burnley and Everton's improvement in recent weeks.

The Whites lost 4-0 to Man City on Saturday (30 April) and face Arsenal and Chelsea in their next two games.

To make matters worse, Leeds lost Liam Cooper to injury in the warm-up and the club have also confirmed Stuart Dallas will be sidelined for a "lengthy period" after going off injured.

McAvennie doesn't rate Leeds' chances of getting anything from their next two games.

"It's a horrible run and it's right when you don't want it," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"This manager has no experience of this situation but it wasn't working with Bielsa so the result would probably be the same.

"I mean, look at Everton and Burnley, Burnley especially are causing a lot of problems.

"I'm not sure Leeds will get anything from these games so they might go into the last two games of the season needing six points.

"I'm worried for them. I don't want Leeds to go down because they are great to have in the Premier League but I am worried."

After the games against Arsenal and Chelsea, Jesse Marsch's side face Brighton.

They then travel to Brentford for the final day of the season.
