Noel Whelan has urged Leeds United to sign Odsonne Edouard after a report claimed the promotion hopefuls were plotting a move for the Celtic striker this summer.
The former Whites and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 22-year-old would be “an amazing signing” for Marcelo Bielsa.
The Mirror report that Leeds want to sign the French striker if they win promotion to the Premier League this season.
The Championship leaders striker struggles have been well documented with Patrick Bamford wasteful and Jean-Kevin Augustin sent packing after a failed loan spell.
Whelan suggested that Edouard has all of the attributes to succeed in the English top-flight.
“That would be an amazing signing and I am glad they are looking at that quality of player,” he told Football Insider.
“I talked about Arsenal and other teams needing to buy this player but I have always said that I hope we would be buying. Now when you hear these rumours – it makes me so happy.
“A quality striker that is of a very good age and can take set pieces. He ticks every box you want from a striker. He has pace, power, can hold the ball up, good in the air and knows where the back of the net it.
“That is what we should be looking at and trying to get that deal done as quickly as possible with our return to the Premier League.”
Football Insider understands that the Hoops are reluctant to sell their star striker this summer and have slapped a £40million price tag on his head.
Edouard scored 27 goals in 45 appearances last season.
