'He'd be Very Shrewd Signing' - Exclusive: Bent reacts to big Tottenham-Sky transfer reveal

Darren Bent has claimed Swansea City defender Joe Rodon would be a “very shrewd” signing by Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russel Edge, the former England hitman argued that the Spurs boss tended to opt for more established talents when dipping his toe into the transfer market.

Sky Sports revealed on Monday evening that Tottenham are in talks to sign the 22-year-old Wales international on a permanent basis before the domestic window shuts on October 16th.

And Bent believes that it could be a smart move from his former club that would cap off an impressive summer of business.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “When you think about it, it’s not really like Mourinho to go and get a youngster and try and coach them up to be a top centre-half.

“Listen, he’s looking around, he obviously likes his squad. I like the way they’re looking at the minute, they’re playing really well. They’re coming off the back of a huge result against Man United.

“For me, he would be a very shrewd signing if they were to go and get him.

“But at the same time, if they don’t get him I think they’ll be very happy with what they’ve done in the transfer market.”

Rodon has made 54 senior appearances for his boyhood club in recent seasons, and helped the Swans to Championship play-off place last term.

He has also been capped four-times at international level for his country, making his debut against Azerbaijan in September of last year.
