Noel Whelan insisted Jurgen Klopp is “the best manager in world football” and is unsurprised Timo Werner wants to move to Liverpool this summer.

The former Leeds and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the 52-year-old is the “perfect modern-day manager”.

The Athletic transfer king David Ornstein has revealed that Werner, 24, will only leave RB Leipzig this summer if it is for the Reds despite interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The striker has been in electric form this season, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Whelan believes the Germany international would be a welcome addition at Anfield ahead of next season to bolster an already “dangerous” attack.

“Jurgen Klopp is that manager that he wants to play for,” he told Football Insider.

“You are talking about getting a head start in a transfer – well they have got a friendship already.

“He would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool to bolster that front-line which is already so dangerous and potent in front of goal.

“There is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp is the best manager in the world right now. He is the perfect manager for modern-day football – man management, a winner and gives youth a chance.

“Players just want to play for him and not let him down. No wonder he wants to join such a good club.”

Klopp, along with his assistants Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders, signed a contract extension in December that will see him remain at Anfield until the summer of 2024.

Any potential targets, like Werner, would be all but guaranteed to play under the former Borussia Dortmund manager for the next four years – an undoubtedly attractive proposition for players.
