Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Ryan Jack after he made a spectacular goalscoring return to the Rangers side on Saturday.

The former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Gers boss Steven Gerrard will be “on cloud nine” following the 28-year-old’s performance at Ibrox.

Jack was sidelined for two months with a knee injury suffered in a 4-0 win over his former club Aberdeen in November.

He made his return to the matchday squad for the first time since on Saturday and scored just five minutes after coming off the bench in a 5-0 win over Ross County.

The win gives the league-leaders a 23 point advantage over rivals Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Jack’s return to the side, Whelan said: “It was an amazing goal.

“Wow, what a team goal it was…. the passes and the build up all the way up to that finish were great. What a way for Jack to mark his return – a goal in a 5-0 victory.

“Steven Gerrard will not let up. He just keeps this team going.

“The draw was disappointing at Motherwell but to come back like that shows that he has got a team full of champions. The players have responded to the manager. It was an emphatic win.

“Jack returning adds more competition and more competition to their side so I am sure Steven Gerrard is on cloud nine right now.”
