'Wow... Unfair' - Exclusive: Hutton reacts to major Leeds transfer development

Alan Hutton has been left fuming after Brighton set a £35million-plus price tag on the head of Leeds United loanee and summer target Ben White.

The former Aston Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, fears the Whites could be “priced out” of signing the centre-back after his “excellent” form at Elland Road.

As revealed by Football Insider, Brighton have told interested clubs – which include Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City – via intermediaries that they will need to splash out north of £35million to sign the 22-year-old.

However, Hutton believes the Seagulls are being unfair on the promising defender and suggests they are taking away his chance to seal a move elsewhere.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’s an excellent player, he’s done really, really well since the loan move but £35million? Wow, that is a big price.

“I think it’s kind of unfair, to be honest. Bournemouth kind of did it with Mings and Villa – they were happy to loan him out, therefore he probably wasn’t wanted at the time at the club.

“He’s went somewhere and done well and they’ve put this massive big fee on his head. I just think it’s a bit unfair. I understand the club want to get the most money for their players but he’s went out, worked hard and done that on his own.

“You can end up getting priced out of the market by your own club who didn’t want you in the first place. I think he’s been excellent for Leeds. He’d be a great acquisition.”

White has played every single minute of the club’s Championship campaign this season, including as a makeshift defensive midfielder in the absence of Kalvin Phillips.

He has just two appearances for Brighton’s first-team under his belt, having come through the youth ranks on the south coast.

In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan claims a 29-year-old has played his last game for the club.
