Yeremy Pino: Crystal Palace make firm decision on summer exit as five-year deal examined

Yeremy Pino will not be allowed to leave Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window as they have high hopes for his long-term development.

Despite what has been a frustrating first season at Selhurst Park for the 23-year-old, there are no concerns about his future at the South London club.

Palace have been encouraged by the improvements he has shown with more game time under his belt and hope to see that progress continue next season.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that any suggestions Pino could leave will be rubbished as he remains part of the club’s plans.

Pino has been tipped to play a significant role as Crystal Palace face Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final, with his performances in the competition impressing.

What are Crystal Palace’s plans for Yeremy Pino?

Football Insider reported earlier this season that Palace fans had become frustrated with Pino after a string of underwhelming performances following his arrival.

However, he has made steady improvements throughout the season and is believed to have impressed the Eagles’ coaching staff with his development.

The Spain international signed a five-year contract when he joined from Villarreal for around £25million last summer and there are no plans to cut that short.

“Crystal Palace aren’t worried about Pino,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They feel he will come good, and he’s made progress this season. He’s still adapting to the Premier League and that takes longer for some players than it does for others.

“But they agreed a five-year contract, not a one-year contract, and that was a show of faith in his ability and long-term development in their team.

“It’s been a disappointing season for him, no doubt, after he was brought in to help replace Eze, but that was always going to be a difficult ask.

“As far as Palace are concerned, he has been improving game on game, and his displays in Eruope have been impressive, they’re looking at the positives.

“I don’t think there’s any suggestion he could leave, Crystal Palace don’t want it to happen and the player won’t either, he will be given time to adapt and I’m sure he will improve.

“Plus, we’ll have to wait and see what a new manager does with him, because he might be playing in a system that suits his talents better than this one.”

Could the next Crystal Palace manager benefit Pino?

Pino and other struggling Crystal Palace stars look set to receive a boost this summer when the Eagles will undergo major changes including bringing in a new manager.

Brown told Football Insider on 11 May that Crystal Palace are pushing to land Andoni Iraola in what would be seen as a “massive coup” for the Eagles.

Iraola’s Bournemouth side play with more natural wide players compared to Oliver Glasner’s use of inverted wingers or two number tens at Selhurst Park.

That has allowed the likes of Antoine Semenyo, Marcus Tavernier and Rayan to thrive, and could see Pino deployed in his more natural position.

Under Glasner, he has often played off the left-hand side, whereas he predominantly played as a right-winger for Villarreal and for Spain, and could do so again under Iraola.
