Paul Robinson sees no reason as to why Tottenham would not make a second move for Olivier Giroud this summer after missing out on the Frenchman in January.

The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the 33-year-old's style of play would be a great fit at Spurs after an "outstanding" second half of the season.

The arrival of the Germany international puts Giroud's position at the club in question and Frank Lampard may deem the former Arsenal striker surplus to requirements this summer.

The Express report that Spurs are back in for the £7million-valued France international who they failed to sign in January but face competition from neighbours West Ham.

When asked by Football Insider if the experienced striker would be a smart signing, Robinson said: "I think he would have been a good signing at the time.

"The way that Spurs play, with one number nine, it suits him. He plays that way for France, it is exactly the same.

"He is not the most prolific but he occupies centre-halves and defenders.

"Some of his best football has been played in the latter half of this season after the move collapsed in January. Since he knew he was staying at Chelsea he has been outstanding.

"You would not rule him out as an option for Tottenham because of the way he plays."

Giroud has scored three goals in 13 appearances this season but has featured predominantly as a substitute.

The 6ft 3in colossus has one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
