Celtic captain Scott Brown has told Motherwell to cut out their tough guy tactics ahead of today’s Betfred Cup Final.
The semi-final between Motherwell and Rangers was marred by accusations of foul play as Motherwell’s Ryan Bowman broke the nose of Rangers’ Fabio Cardoso.
The incident didn’t impress Brown, who was watching the game.
As he told The Scottish Sun: “There is not a problem as long as it is all within the laws of the game and they do it properly.
“It is a contact sport but you simply can’t raise elbows.”
The Scotland skipper continued: “There is a difference when you hit someone on the face with an elbow. You can knock them out, you can concuss them.
“It is not what football is about.”
Brown goes into today’s final hoping to add to the four league cups he has already won, three at Celtic and one with Hibs.
Celtic’s game with Motherwell in the Betfred Cup Final is the first of three games between the sides in the next six days.
The sides are due to meet again at Fir Park on Wednesday night followed by a game at Celtic Park on Saturday.
