'You've got to be excited' - Exclusive: Pundit wowed by big update on rarely-seen Spurs star

Jose Mourinho will be delighted Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga has returned to full training, according to Darren Bent.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs striker claimed the 21-year-old’s versatility makes him a great option for Mourinho.

Tottenham confirmed last week that the defender was back in training after recovering from a thigh injury.

He made an initial return to the side last month in the Lilywhites’ victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup but has not featured since.

However, Tanganga is now in full training and Mourinho confirmed, as reported by Football.London, he is close to a return to the starting XI.

Asked by Football Insider what that will mean for the Portuguese, Bent said: “You can tell from the Amazon documentary Mourinho really likes him.

“I thought he did really, really well when he came in, he was powerful.

“That’s good for Mourinho that he’s got that option there. It’s good because obviously, he can play right-back, left-back and down the middle at centre-half.

“The more options Mourinho has got is perfect for him because of the way they play.

“If you’re a Spurs supporter and you see the squad they’ve got down there, you’ve got to be excited because there’s no telling what this team can do.

“Especially this season where everybody is all over the place. Who knows this could be their year.”

Tanganga played 11 times for Spurs last season in his breakout campaign, 10 of those came under Mourinho.

He operated mainly as a centre-back but also slotted in at left and right-back.
