Rob Green has signed a new Leeds contract, Football Insider can reveal.

New documents registered with the Football Association show that the 12-times England international penned fresh terms on 23 February.

There has been no announcement from Leeds about an extension for Green, 37, but paperwork on the official FA website shows that his registration details were updated at the end of last month.

It appears that the Championship promotion hopefuls have triggered an appearance clause in the goalkeeper’s current 12-month contract.

BBC correspondent Adam Pope explained last week on his personal Twitter account that Green said “earlier in the season that if he players a certain number of games he earns another year at Leeds”.

That extension has now been triggered for the veteran keeper, who has been an ever-present for Leeds in the Championship this season.

Green has started all 37 of the team’s league encounters and is on course to play every minute of their 46-match campaign.

He is now set to remain at the Yorkshire giants in 2017-18 in what would be a second season at the club.

Former Norwich, West Ham and QPR keeper Green made his 600th league appearance in the goalless draw against former club Rangers at Elland Road last Saturday.

The former England international, 37, has won many of the Leeds fans over with his performances in recent months after a difficult start to his career at the club following his free transfer.

Manager Monk is in no doubt about the effectiveness of the goalkeeper and how his experience has been crucial to the team’s success.

“Making his 600th league appearance is a fantastic achievement, it just shows what a professional he is,” said Monk last week, as quoted by the official Leeds Twitter account.

“Rob has done exceptionally well this season, like everyone else, performing at a high level and lending his experience.”
