'Our league title went to pot without him' - Arsenal fans react to reported major injury blow

By Abigail Withey

Arsenal fans have expressed their devastation at the news claiming that midfielder Santi Cazorla is unlikely to make another appearance for the Gunners.

The Express has reported that after a series of operations on his ankle following an achilles injury, the 32-year-old would remain unable to play for the first team during the club’s upcoming campaign.

The Spaniard missed a total of 43 games during the Gunners’ previous season, after he initially injured his ankle during a Champions League clash against Ludogorets in October when the club’s secured a 6-0 victory.

Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to express their sadness at the report surrounding the playmaker, with a majority of the supporters praising the Spaniard for his efforts over the years and some fans even calling him “irreplaceable”.

With Cazorla unlikely to make an appearance for the Arsenal first team again, many of the fans have called out for a replacement.

Throughout the 32-year-old’s absence from the squad, the team appeared to struggle and ended up in fifth place in the Premier League table which meant, for the first time in Arsene Wenger’s reign, the club failed to grab a spot in the Champions League.

Wenger appears to be starting up his summer squad overhaul in order to bolster the team ahead of their next campaign, as on Tuesday the BBC reported that Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette had undergone a medical and was close to completing a deal with the north London club.

In other Arsenal news, the club are close to completing their biggest ever signing.
