Man United player ratings v Real Madrid: 24-year-old star has a 4/10 stinker
COMMENT By Harry Sykes
Jose Mourinho couldn't add a trophy to his United cabinet in the Super Cup on Tuesday night.
Despite Romelu Lukaku scoring his first competitive goal for Man United, Mourinho's men were outclassed at the Philip II Arena in Skopje.
In the end a 2-1 victory failed to do justice to the Real Madrid side who dominated for large swathes of this tie.
However, there were some small victories to take from the game and Mourinho won't be too upset at getting a run-out against such high-class opposition on the eve of the Premier League opening this weekend.
Casemiro scored the first goal of the match for Real Madrid in the 24th minute but the highlight of the evening was Isco's stunning second in the 52nd minute.
He slipped the ball to Gareth Bale who returned the favour in a move that wouldn't have looked out of place on the training ground.
Lukaku missed an absolute sitter, blazing over an open gaol, before calmly slotting away United's consolation after a stinging shot from Nemanja Matic was fumbled by the Madrid keeper.
Football Insider rates the Man United starting eleven after their defeat to the best team in Europe.

Goalkeeper and defenders
David de Gea 7 - Not at fault for either of the two goals, which were finished superbly. Made a smart save from Toni Kroos but didn't have a whole lot else to do.
Antonio Valencia 6 - Decent performance from the captain and United looked better when he was getting forward but not his best game in a United shirt.
Victor Lindelof 6 - What a baptism of fire for the new recruit. As Mourinho himself said in the build-up to the game, this is a completely different level to the Portuguese Liga Nos. Mourinho might have wanted to break him in more gently but he didn't look out of place, despite being schooled by Isco and Gareth Bale for the second goal.
Chris Smalling 7 - Put his body on the line again, making a great tackle against Gareth Bale in the first half and a fantastic block from Marcelo in the second.
Matteo Darmian 5 - A tough night for Darmian, who really won't want to remember being absolutely done by Daniel Carvajal.

Midfielders
Nemanja Matic 8 - The best United player on the night and Antonio Conte will have been watching this game through his hands. A great buy, will be huge this season.
Ander Herrera 6 (replaced by Marouane Fellaini, 56 mins) - Kept the game within reach for United, along with Matic in the middle. Was furious with Romelu Lukaku after the striker came from an offside position to take the ball instead of leaving it to the midfielder.
Paul Pogba 4 - He might have been told that United want more from him in attack this year but the 24-year-old star's decision making was really poor tonight. A terrible game from a very expensive player.

Attackers
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 5 - It was a hot night in Macedonia, so we'll cut Henrikh Mkhitaryan some slack but this wasn't a great display. Gave the ball away too much.
Jesse Lingard 5 (replaced by Marcus Rashford, 45 mins) - Real Madrid dominated the first half and Lingard didn't get a chance to do much. Hauled off at half-time and replaced by the ever-bright Marcus Rashford.
Romelu Lukaku 6 - He scored a goal, missed an absolute sitter and made some really strange decisons. A mixed performance but Mourinho would argue that the goal was the most important thing of the night.
In other Man United news, this defender is set for a medical as Man United agree deal with PL rivals.
