Bundesliga sensation: My agent is in talks with Aston Villa about loan switch
By Will Butcher
Wolfsburg winger Anton Donkor has revealed that his agent has held talks over a possible loan move to Aston Villa.
Earlier this week, German newspaper Bild claim that the Midlands giants are eyeing the 19-year-old winger to bolster Steve Bruce’s options on the flanks.
Speaking to German outlet Sport Buzzer, the Wolfsburg teenager has revealed that his agent has held talks with Bruce’s side over a loan switch until the end of the season.
“Yes, my consultant has contact with Aston Villa,” Donkor said. “In order to further develop myself, a loan to England would surely be a good thing.
“It’s certainly an interesting possibility. After the loan, I hope that I return stronger.”

The highly-rated winger is yet to make a senior appearance for the Budnesliga giants, but is a regular in Wolfsburg’s reserve side that play senior football in the fourth tier of German football.
After returning with Wolfsburg’s first team from a winter training camp in La Manga, Donkor is ready to gain first-team experience elsewhere in order to further his development.
Villa are crying out for a added depth on the flanks, with Albert Adomah recognised as Bruce’s only natural wide man. Jordan Ayew, Ross McCormack and Jack Grealish have all been used out wide, but are better off used in a central role.
Football Insider verdict:
An unknown to English football, Donkor could provide an intriguing extra dimension to Villa’s attack with opposition managers and teams unbeknown to his strengths and weaknesses. Naturally a left winger, Donkor can also play on the right as well as providing cover as a centre-forward and his versatility could prove crucial in the second half of a demanding Championship season. Physically strong but also able to beat a man with explosive pace, Donkor’s addition to the Villa side could be the key between them spending another year in the second tier of English football and making a late dash for the playoffs. A loan is also the correct course of action, as Donkor’s inexperience could see him fail to impress at Villa Park.
