21 goals in 38 games: Aston Villa set to pursue deal for soon-to-be-available goalscorer - report
By Matt Farr
Aston Villa are one of several English sides looking to strike a deal for Real Zaragoza goalscorer Angel Rodriguez this summer, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claimed in their live transfer blog on Monday afternoon (16:46pm) that Aston Villa were interested in signing the Spanish striker when his contract expires.
Angel is out of contract at the end of the month, but he has yet to be offered a fresh deal despite his impressive form in the Segunda Division last season.
The 30-year-old netted an impressive 21 goals from 38 appearances for Zaragoza during the 2016-17 campaign, a run of form which has alerted a number of Championship clubs to his contract situation.
But Aston Villa are set to face competition for his signature from divisional rivals Hull City, Reading and Queens Park Rangers, who are all looking for reinforcements to aid their promotion bids next term.

QPR appear the most keen to complete a deal, after they sent scouts to watch the striker in action during Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Girona.
Angel has spent his entire professional career playing in Spain, but he has also earned Europa League experience with Levante during the 2012-13 season.
Football Insider verdict
If Steve Bruce wants to push for promotion next season, he simply must add more firepower to his Aston Villa side. He made wholesale changes to his squad in January, allowing the likes of Jordan Ayew, Rudy Gestede and Ross McCormack to quit the club, while Libor Kozak will leave at the end of his contract this summer. Bruce added Scott Hogan from Brentford, but there has been little prolific goalscoring cover for premier hitman Jonathan Kodjia, and Angel could offer much-needed support. Questions may be raised over his ability to perform in England, but his imminent free-agent status means it is surely worth a punt.
