Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom is being eyed by English Championship club Birmingham, according to a reliable journalist.
The 24-year-old right-back spent the last campaign on loan in Austria with league champions Red Bull Salzburg.
Now, he could be set for a move closer to home with Sun correspondent Alan Nixon reporting on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that Birmingham were targeting Wisdom alongside Newcastle centre-back Grant Hanley.
“Birmingham City going to have a go. After Wisdom and Hanley. Among others,” wrote Nixon on the social media platform.
Wisdom has not played for the Liverpool first team since September 2013 with the player spending time at each of Derby, West Brom and Norwich alongside Salzburg during the last four campaigns.
He is however still contracted to the Reds until 2019 and at this stage of his career he may seek a permanent move elsewhere in an attempt to see more first team football.
The versatile defender featured just 16 times for Salzburg in their title winning campaign last season and the former England Under-21 international may be more accustomed to Championship football.
Birmingham are currently led by experienced boss Harry Redknapp and he will be looking to move the club away from the relegation zone after surviving by just two points last season.
Football Insider verdict:
Wisdom was once tipped for big things, but his career has stalled and is continuing to do so at an alarming rate. Just a few years a go many believed he would be a regular for the England national team. However, now at 24 he is not even in contention for a first team spot at club level. A move away from Liverpool, who have both Nathaniel Clyne and the emerging Trent Alexander-Arnold is now the best for his career and the fact that Birmingham are now one of his suitors shows how much his stock has dropped.
