Brendan Rodgers is targeting one of his former players with Celtic making contact with Liverpool over young attacker Ryan Kent, according to a reliable journalist.
The 20-year-old winger has spent the last two seasons out on loan in the English Football Leagues with both Coventry and Barnsley respectively.
Now, he could be in for a much bigger move this summer with Sun correspondent Alan Nixon reporting on his personal Twitter account on Sunday that Celtic have asked Liverpool about taking Kent on a temporary deal.
“Celtic have asked Liverpool for Ryan Kent on loan. Good young player,” reported Nixon on the social media platform.
Celtic will possibly be on the lookout for a new wide player this summer following the end of Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts loan deal at the club.

Rodgers will have been aware of Kent during his time at Liverpool with the youngster part of the academy team and he may feel that he is now ready to make the step up to the Premiership.
The youngster has previously made just one first team appearance for the Reds in a 2-2 draw against Exeter in 2016 with the majority of his senior experience to date coming at both Barnsley and Coventry.
Last season with the Tykes he played in 47 matches in all competitions, scoring three while also assisting three himself.
Football Insider verdict:
Kent is one of those youngsters who has seemingly been dubbed for big things for a long time now. However, at the age of 20 he will soon stop becoming a player with potential and will be close to playing at his true ability. Now, Kent hardly lit up the Championship last season and it’s fair to say that Celtic should be looking at a much higher calibre of players if they are to make progress in Europe next season. Kent still could prove to be a success, but he has made little progress in recent years and this deal could go either way if he does end up at Celtic.
In other Celtic transfer news, Chris Sutton has identified the position Rodgers must look into strengthening this summer.
