Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan is waiting to see whether Newcastle’s interest is concrete before deciding his future, according to a report.
The Mirror have claimed on their live transfer blog (Sunday, 2.35pm) that the 24-year-old, who has passed a medical at Championship club Fulham ahead of a £5million move is refusing to put pen to paper until the Magpies show their intentions.
The report follows a claim from the Northern Echo stating that the north east giants were hoping to secure a move for the 25-time capped Uruguay international this summer.
But, nothing has since materialised and now after passing a medical at Craven Cottage it is said he will wait to see whether Newcastle are truly interested.
Rafa Benitez is currently looking at players to add to his squad following their promotion to the Premier League and Rolan, who scored 10 goals in 33 matches in all competitions last season could certainly be on the Spaniard’s target list given his low valuation.
Football Insider verdict:
Rolan’s scoring record doesn’t read great and in 149 matches for Bordeaux he has struck just 38 times in total. However, following the sale of Daryl Murphy to Nottingham Forest it is clear need another option in their squad to fall alongside both Dwight Gayle and Aleksander Mitrovic. The French market is also one that Newcastle have purchased from aplenty in recent years and while the club have signed a number of duds they have also found some success stories like Yohan Cabaye and Rolan could be like the now current Crystal Palace midfielder with Benitez knowing who is a good player and who is not.
In other Newcastle transfer news, this 24-year-old Magpies player has been told his time at the club is over.
