Paul Robinson was blown away by Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn following his performance in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham and Blackburn goalkeeper dubbed McGinn a manager’s dream as he suggested the midfielder could do it all.
McGinn racked up his second assist of the season against the Reds after his free-kick was volleyed home by Trezeguet in the 21st minute of Saturday’s match.
Robinson revealed that he thought McGinn ran the midfield for Dean Smith’s side and even added that he didn’t think the 25-year-old was the type of player to cause problems behind-the-scenes.
When asked about McGinn’s fantastic display against Liverpool on Saturday, Robinson told Football Insider: “He’s a manager’s dream.
“He’s the type of player who is just a bundle of energy but he has a lot of talent as well.
“Runs the midfield, never stops running, backwards, forwards, sideways, he can play through balls, he can defend and also he can get goals as we’ve seen at international level.
“You can describe him as a manager’s dream as I don’t think he’s one of those players who will cause the manager any problems off-the-field, he’s a hard-working honest professional.”
The Scottish midfielder has played every minute of the Villans’ Premier League campaign so far and has contributed two assists as well as three goals to the cause in the process.
McGinn joined the Villans from Hibernian in August 2018 and is contracted to stay at Villa Park until June 2024 after signing a contract extension in August 2019.
In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent gushed about a ‘brilliant’ Villans player who is being overshadowed by his teammate.
