Aaron Wan-Bissaka surely fighting to save his West Ham career after ‘no-show’

Aaron Wan-Bissaka spent a third consecutive game as an unused substitute as West Ham United beat Everton on Saturday.

Kyle Walker-Peters started and played the full 90 minutes as goals from Tomas Soucek and Callum Wilson overcame Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s equaliser and saw the Irons secure the three points.

Wan-Bissaka signed a seven-year contract when he joined West Ham from Man United in 2024, but his recent expulsion has fuelled rumours linking him with a move away this summer.

And there appears to be no end in sight, with the Hammers earning seven points from their three games without the right-back.

West Ham transfer chiefs will be surveying the 28-year-old’s situation ahead of the transfer window, with several possibilities on the table.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka must earn position back

At the start of the month, Wan-Bissaka found himself at the centre of a dispute with DR Congo and West Ham, along with several other clubs and players.

The issue stemmed from the nation’s World Cup qualifier against Jamaica, which they won 1-0 to book their place at the summer tournament for the first time in 52 years.

President Felix Tshisekedi organised a heroic welcome and celebration for the victorious players in Kinshasa – a plan that clubs, understandably, took issue with.

The parade directly clashed with West Ham’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leeds United, and also directly interfered with FIFA regulations surrounding international breaks.

The Athletic later reported that the Hammers complained to FIFA and did not give their permission for Wan-Bissaka to stay in DR Congo, with a flight scheduled that the defender did not show up for.

When he did finally return, the 28-year-old found himself out of the team, and there is a suspicion that he will stay there, unless he can win his place back.

Newcastle a potential destination for Wan-Bissaka

Should the situation not improve for him at West Ham, Wan-Bissaka may well go into the summer looking for a new club.

His former side, Crystal Palace, could well be an option, but there appears to be a position opening up at Newcastle United.

Kieran Trippier will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, and Tino Livramento’s future is in doubt.

The right-back has suffered an injury-ridden season and is reportedly of interest to Arsenal.

Whether Newcastle would be interested in Wan-Bissaka is another matter completely, but the DR Congo international will have the chance to drum up some interest at the World Cup.
