West Ham wait on Premier League survival
Every supporter loves to read news about potential incomings at their club, but for West Ham United, there is going to be particularly treacherous summer window to navigate regardless of what division they’re playing in next season. The Hammers are embroiled in a battle against relegation, so any incomings will be depend entirely upon whether they are playing in the Premier League or Championship next season. But, even if the Hammers do maintain their top-flight status, it has been reported that the Irons are facing a brutal liquidity shortfall.
That has been caused largely by the loss of European football, meaning broadcast, matchday, and commercial income have all been negatively impacted. In essence, even if Nuno Espirito Santo successfully leads his side to safety, the likes of captain Jarrod Bowen, and other assets such as Crysencio Summerville may have to be sold to try and balance the books at the London Stadium.
Who has previously been linked to West Ham?
While West Ham find themselves in a perilous position both on and off the pitch, that doesn’t mean the rumour mill stops. It also doesn’t mean that the club’s recruitment staff are twiddling their thumbs; they’ll have two plans being formulated for the summer – one for survival, and one for relegation.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness believes West Ham should be able to sign Axel Disasi on a permanent basis from Chelsea in a £30million deal, which would also include add-ons. Disasi is currently on loan in East London but has impressed in the heart of Nuno’s defence. However, there is a suggestion that other suitors, such as Leeds United, could beat West Ham to the signing of Disasi.
Independiente’s Kevin Lomonaco is another name to have been linked with a move to East London, which could mean a sale for Max Kilman who has been out of favour under Nuno. Defence is clearly a position West Ham feel need strengthening, as Emmanuel Fernandez is also reportedly on their radar – though Rangers’ reluctance to sell, coupled with a contract that runs until June 2029, makes this one a difficult one to complete. Coventry’s Haji Wright is also an option, as ex-scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that the Sky Blues could look to sell him even if they win promotion.
