Candidates, Ibrox Board Shortlist & Latest Betting Odds

After initially impressing in charge of Rangers, Danny Rohl is facing major pressure after seeing an unlikely Scottish Premiership title bid fall apart during the post-split fixtures. With Hearts and Celtic now seemingly in a two-horse race to finish in top spot, it would take an almighty twist in fortunes for the Light Blues to revive their charge for the trophy after back-to-back losses against Motherwell and the Jam Tarts. Rohl had initially impressed after picking up the pieces of Russell Martin’s disastrous reign in charge. However, even a slight dip in form is unacceptable at Ibrox, and the former Sheffield Wednesday manager is now seemingly fighting for his future, despite a major turnaround.

Steven Gerrard under consideration to replace Danny Rohl

Reports have emerged in May that suggest former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard could return to Ibrox this summer. Burnley have been looking at appointing the Liverpool legend. However, speculation suggests that the Gers admire the Englishman and may look at re-hiring him if Rohl fails to finish the season on a positive note. Gerrard won the Scottish Premiership title as Rangers manager in 2020-21. He left later that year for Aston Villa, where he had a fairly unsuccessful stint before managing Saudi club Al-Ettifaq between 2023 and 2025.

Heat rating reflects the current level of speculation and perceived likelihood surrounding potential Rangers managerial candidates.

If Rohl is sacked, Kevin Muscat is also an option. The Shanghai Port manager was strongly linked with replacing Russell Martin earlier this season. However, a Chinese Super League title charge put paid to those plans. Derek McInnes could also be under consideration. The former Rangers midfielder has been someone who’s been connected with the Ibrox hotseat previously. If he wins the title with Hearts, though, would he be keen to quit Tynecastle – and a spot in the 2026-27 Champions League – to return to Govan?
