Steven Gerrard step closer to sealing Rangers job after Danny Rohl development at Celtic Park
Steven Gerrard is surely closing in on sealing a sensational return to Rangers this summer after their 3-1 defeat to Celtic on Sunday.
It was yet another Old Firm derby that Danny Rohl proved incapable of winning despite going 1-0 up early on.
The Gers have lost three games on the bounce and have now missed out on Champions League football, with the defeat condemning them to third place.
As a result, Rohl’s position has never looked more precarious, with the manager incapable of winning big matches.
Now, a change must be made, and Gerrard would be the ideal man to lead Rangers forward.

Alan Nixon reported before the Old Firm derby on Sunday, the “shock” news via Patreon that “Gerrard’s name is being whispered in high places in Glasgow”.
Now, this is surely more likely, with Rohl proving week after week that he is out of depth at Ibrox.

The performance at Celtic Park was infuriating as the visitors failed to capitalise on their excellent start and finish the tie off in the first half.
While Rangers were unlucky with a series of controversial decisions, this was a game they had to win, and they once again failed to deliver.

The appointment of Gerrard would make the most sense in the summer, as he breeds success and would have the instant backing of the fanbase.
Therefore, the Old Firm defeat has likely pushed the Liverpool legend closer to sealing a return.
Who else is linked with Gerrard?
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that Gerrard has had multiple talks with Burnley about their vacant managerial position.
The Clarets are on the hunt for a manager to lead their upcoming Championship campaign after Scott Parker was sacked.
On top of this, multiple clubs are likely to be searching for a new manager in the summer, and Gerrard could be a candidate for a job elsewhere.
As a result, Rangers may have to move quickly if they want to bring in Gerrard for the 2026-27 campaign.
If not, they may miss a golden opportunity to bring back their most successful manager at Ibrox in recent years.
