Bentaleb shares where he stands at Tottenham with Pochettino and Levy

By Emma Sanders

Nabil Bentaleb has revealed he has a good relationship with Mauricio Pochettino despite falling out of favour with Tottenham and leaving the club.

The 21 year-old was a regular feature in Spurs’ midfield when Pochettino first took over in May 2014 but was soon forgotten and he left in the summer.

Bentaleb joined Schalke on a season-long loan in August and has scored five goals in 14 appearances since making the switch.

The midfielder has insisted he left White Hart Lane on “good terms” and decided it was in his best interests to leave Tottenham and find regular football elsewhere.

“I was not part of the plan and I thought at that time – and still now – at my age, I need to play to improve,” said Bentaleb, as reported by the Evening Standard.

“I made it clear to the coaches and the coaches said: ‘No problem. We can sort this situation out.’ I left on good terms with the chairman and the coach.”

He joined Tottenham in July 2013 and started 25 Premier League games during Pochettino’s first season but seemingly does not have a long-term future at the club any more.

The Algeria international has been overtaken by Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele in the pecking order and it’s unlikely he will challenge the trio for a role on his return.
