Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo will be “absolutely devastated” after picking up an injury in pre-season, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists it is a “nightmare” that the 23-year-old has been ruled out ahead of the new Premiership season.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Neil Lennon confirmed that the 23-year-old is currently ruled out with a hamstring injury and that he is hopeful the forward will be back in training next week.
The Hoops kick off their Premiership campaign with a home tie against Hamilton Academical on Sunday.
Hutton admits he does not think there is a worse time to pick up an injury than pre-season and that Bayo will be gutted to have picked up a problem so close to the new season.
Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s an absolute nightmare. I saw some of the Hibs game from the other day, I’m sitting with a couple of my friends who are Celtic fans and we’re just saying it’s the worst time to get an injury.
“You work so hard to get fit, to get to a level and then to go and pick up an injury again – he must be absolutely devastated.
“He probably just wants a run in the team or to get down to business and something just keeps popping up. It’s a bit of a shame.”
Bayo has played 17 times for Celtic across all competitions and has two goals under his belt to date.
The Ivory Coast international joined the Bhoys from Dunajska Streda back in January 2019.
In other Celtic news, Neil Lennon has been tipped to sell a striker after a Sky transfer report.
