Darren Bent showered Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga with praise following his performance against Middlesbrough.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs striker shared he thought Tanganga deserves all the plaudits that come his way as he was absolutely brilliant against Boro.
The 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes of Spurs’ 2-1 win over Boro in their FA Cup third-round replay on Tuesday evening.
Bent explained that he thought Jose Mourinho will end up loving Tanganga as the 20-year-old is a big powerful presence who does everything asked of him.
When asked about Tanganga’s performance against Boro, Bent told Football Insider: “He was absolutely outstanding yesterday.
“Honestly he was so good, he worked really really hard, everything that he was asked to do, he did it.
“He drove past people, honestly he was really really good, absolutely brilliant so he thoroughly deserves all the praise he is getting right now.
“Now it’s time for him to kick on, I know it’s early doors and you can’t shove him in the team all the time, there’s going to come a point where he’s going to have to let him go.
“Yes he’s a little bit keen to win the ball, he gives away needless free-kicks, but he’s young and that’s to be expected.
“But if you talk about pace, power, he’s a big powerful presence so I think Mourinho will love him.”
Tanganga’s appearance against Boro was only his third outing for the senior Spurs side, though he has previously regularly featured for the U-23s.
The young centre-back’s other appearances for the first-team came in the recent 1-0 loss to Liverpool and the EFL Cup loss to Colchester United.
