Adam Aznou: What next for 86% stat Everton outcast as summer move appears nailed-on

Adam Aznou will hope to secure a move away from Everton this summer after a nightmare season at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees signed the young defender from Bayern Munich last summer in a deal worth around £8million, and excitement surrounded his potential.

Aznou arrived at Everton looking for an opportunity, having impressed in brief appearances for the German champions.

But if anything, games have been even more difficult to come by under the management of David Moyes, who had handed the left-back just one senior appearance all season.

It is unclear what has gone on behind the scenes for the Morocco international to receive such treatment, but Everton transfer chiefs are certain to seek a new club for him this summer.

What next for Adam Aznou?

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider in March that Everton hope to keep Vitalii Mykolenko at the club this summer.

The 26-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June, but a one-year extension is reportedly due to be triggered.

The Ukraine international has faced brief periods of injury this season, but has largely been available in the Premier League.

It is not Mykolenko’s fitness that has restricted the chances for Aznou, however. Moyes has opted for James Garner at left-back when his first-choice has been unavailable.

Aznou’s solitary chance came against Sunderland in the FA Cup, when he came off the bench. And the baffling part is that he was brilliant, providing a constant threat and winning the penalty that sent the game to extra time.

But there is surely something going on behind the scenes that has seen the left-back never rewarded with a further opportunity.

Everton cannot expect to get their money back for the Morocco international, but reported interest from Marseille could allow them to at least get something for him.

Aznou appears in Everton club video

Bizarrely, Aznou has continued to appear in Everton club footage and on social media, despite the ongoing situation.

Last month, the Toffees posted a video of the left-back celebrating a youth player’s goal at Finch Farm.

But behind the smiles remains a difficult and concerning case that threatens to seriously affect the 19-year-old’s career.

In truth, Everton fans will likely never learn the reason behind Aznou’s dismissal behind the scenes, even after he leaves the club.

Nonetheless, it has not been a great look for Moyes, who was previously thought to be a great manager for the younger player.
