Gabriel Agbonlahor is sure “perfect” Celtic loanee Jonjoe Kenny will be a success in the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa captain admitted the 23-year-old was unlucky to not have been given more opportunities at Everton in the first half of the season.

Kenny moved to Parkhead on loan until the end of the season on deadline day last week and has played twice for his new club already.

He was handed his full debut just 24 hours after moving to Glasgow in the Hoops’ 4-0 win over Kilmarnock.

The former England Under-21 international retained his place in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Motherwell at the weekend.

Kenny finished the game with an impressive 82 per cent pass completion rate and also made three key passes, according to sofascore.

Celtic moved for Kenny after Jeremie Frimpong was sold to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for a fee that could rise to £11.5million.

Asked whether the Everton academy graduate was an adequate replacement for Frimpong, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Definitely. I like Jonjoe Kenny, he’s a good player.

“It’s tough for him at Everton with Seamus Coleman ahead of him.

“But he’s a good player and I’m sure he’ll be perfect in the Scottish Premiership.”

Kenny was also a target for Premier League side Burnley during the January transfer window and talks were at an advanced stage.

While he has moved to Parkhead on loan, Everton value Kenny at £7million and were willing to sell him during the winter window.

In other news, Kevin Phillips has claimed Celtic “missed a trick” by not signing Demarai Gray in a £3million January deal.
