Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny before next week’s transfer cut-off, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 23-year-old has struggled for game time at Goodison Park this season and could leave in pursuit of regular first team football.

As revealed by this site on 11 January, Sean Dyche’s side have set their sights on signing the right-back this month.

A Burnley source has now told Football Insider that discussions have advanced to the stage where a deal is likely.

The Clarets have been exploring both permanent and loan options for the defender after the takeover of the club was completed.

Football Insider understands that the Toffees value Kenny at around £7million.

A product of the Everton academy, Kenny made his Premier League debut for the Blues against Norwich City in May 2016.

He has made a total of 48 appearances for his boyhood club, eight of which have come this season.

The former England Under-21 international will be disappointed with his lack of game time under Carlo Ancelotti having excelled while on loan at Schalke last year.

The Bundesliga giants signed Kenny on a season-long loan deal at the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign and he went on to make 31 starts in all competitions.

However, his return to Merseyside has not gone as expected, and game time has been a rarity despite a long-term injury to regular right-back Seamus Coleman.

Kenny has less than 18 months left on his contract at Goodison Park.

In other news, Everton have been backed to sell a 28-year-old for £9million profit after a report from the Telegraph.
