Agbonlahor predicts 'riots' at Everton after latest Benitez twist today
Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he is fuming Rafa Benitez is even considering taking over at Everton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward compared the situation to when Alex McLeish took over from Aston Villa after a spell in charge of Birmingham City.
Football Insider learned on 19 June Benitez has been advised to snub Everton and wait for the Newcastle United job.
The Spaniard is understood to be getting cold feet after a big backlash from the club’s supporters.
However, the Times reported today (22 June) that has not put off owner Farhad Moshiri who see him as the man to lead the club forward.
“I’m just hoping he hasn’t even spoken to them about,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Where’s the loyalty in football?
“It’s like when Alex McLeish came to Villa. I was fuming. He’d just been at Birmingham City, he’d just got them relegated then he came to Aston Villa. As an Aston Villa fan, I was fuming. It didn’t sit right with me. There were Villa fans rioting and were outside the stadium in their thousands angry with Randy Learner.
“They’ll be the same at Everton. He won the Champions League with Liverpool, he had a successful spell for so long. It’s still in the mind of everyone on Merseyside.
“He himself should think ‘There are so many clubs in the world, why would I go ruin my legacy at Liverpool to go to Everton?’
“I don’t see that happening. The fan unrest over the past week should put the owner off it.
“Benitez will get another job, he should just wait for it.”
