Rangers January transfer target Jesse Lingard would jump at the chance to work with Steven Gerrard, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker claimed the combination of the Glasgow giants’ prestige and the “lure of Gerrard” can seal a blockbuster January deal for the club.
TeamTALK reported last week Rangers are one of a number of clubs from across Europe interested in the midfielder who has entered the final year of his contract.
United have an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months but if this is not activated before next month he will ask to leave Old Trafford.
The England international has been limited to just two appearances in the Carabao Cup this term and has not made a Premier League matchday squad since the beginning of October.
Asked by Football Insider whether Lingard would be tempted by a move to Ibrox, Agbonlahor said: “Rangers are a big club.
“I’m not sure what goes through Jesse Lingard’s mind but I can imagine he wants to play more football.
“He’s not making the bench for Manchester United so I’m sure he’ll be keen to get out and play somewhere.
“Whether that be at Rangers… I’m sure the lure of playing under Steven Gerrard would get any player, especially an English player because Gerrard is an England legend of the game.
“Maybe it’s something that happens. But maybe there are Premier League clubs that will be interested in Lingard because he’s had a great career.”
Lingard played 40 times for Manchester United last season but completed 90 minutes on four occasions in the Europa League and FA Cup.
After the season restarted in June, he was limited to just 41 minutes of Premier League action.
