Agbonlahor expects 'star' signing for Newcastle United after £25m Crysensio Summerville reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Newcastle United to move for a “star” winger this summer rather than sign Leeds United youngster Crysensio Summerville.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a move for the 21-year-old would be “strange” with the Magpies already blessed with several good wingers.

Sources told this site on Wednesday (26 April) that Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are among the sides monitoring Summerville’s situation ahead of the summer window.

It is believed that Leeds will demand a fee of between £25-30million for the Netherlands Under-21 international winger.

Summerville has notched four goals and two assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this term.

Newcastle sit third in the Premier League and are well-placed to qualify for the Champions League group stage in the 2023-24 campaign.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “That’s a strange one.

“Newcastle are already blessed with a lot of good wingers. Jacob Murphy has been outstanding.

“Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Gordon are all there too. If I’m Newcastle, I’m going into the bigger market and looking for a star – not Summerville.

“They’ve got a lot of players in that area as it is. Summerville hasn’t exactly done a lot at Leeds so far.”

Almiron is Newcastle’s highest-scoring wide player this season, notching 11 goals and three assists in his best-ever Premier League campaign.

Meanwhile, Murphy has chipped in with four goals and two assists despite starting just over a third of the Magpies’ top-flight games.
