Agbonlahor hits out after Andreas Christensen twist at Chelsea - 'That's not true'
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Andreas Christensen must have had a valid reason for pulling out of the Chelsea squad on the morning of their FA Cup final penalty shoot-out defeat to Liverpool (14 May).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Christensen would have loved to have helped Chelsea win the cup.
As quoted by the Guardian on Wednesday (18 May), Thomas Tuhcel claimed it was not the first time the 26-year-old had withdrawn on the morning of a game.
It is claimed he was set to start at Wembley and Tuchel would not disclose the reason as to why he pulled out.
Christensen may have played his final game for the Blues as he is set to join Barcelona this summer when his contract expires.
“I don’t think a player is going to pull out of a cup final for nothing,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Look at Antonio Rudiger, he’s leaving and he still playing in cup finals.
“Maybe he woke up and felt very ill and couldn’t play. People are quick to react and think he’s pulled out because he doesn’t want to play for Chelsea. That’s not true.
“I’m sure Christensen would have loved to play in the cup final and won another trophy before he leaves.
“I’ve had situations when I’ve felt really ill overnight with cold symptoms and pulled out of games. You can’t play like that. A football game is so demanding, you can’t play ill.
“If you’ve got a sore throat, feel a bit ill it’s very hard to get through an elite game.”
