Agbonlahor: Ings may be axed by Aston Villa amid Smith reveal
Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he finds it difficult to see Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins lining up together in a 4-3-3 formation for Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer
The pair started together for the first time at the weekend as Dean Smith matched Chelsea’s shape with a 3-5-2 formation.
As quoted by the Shropshire Star after the game, the Aston Villa boss insisted: “There are many different ways I can get two strikers in.”
Asked for his assessment of the situation, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “As much as I liked the formation [against Chelsea], I want to go back to a 4-3-3.
“I don’t think you can have Ings and Watkins together in a 4-3-3.

“It’s a bit of a headache for Dean Smith. Three at the back can work but I don’t want three centre-halves on the pitch. I want an extra attacker on the pitch.
“Often when you play that 3-5-2 one of your centre-halves have the ball the most and they’re not great on the ball. You want your midfielders to be the ones on the ball.
“He’s going to have to choose between one of Ings and Watkins. With what he did last season Watkins has to start for me.
“It might be a case of Ings being on the bench but it’s hard to see him on the bench too! It’s a headache.
“Maybe Ings may play as a number 10 with Emi Buendia off the left.”
Ings moved to Villa Park from Southampton during the summer transfer window for £30million.
The England international has been in red-hot form this term finding the net twice in his first four games including scoring the Premier League goal of the month for August.
