Agbonlahor is 'worried' about Matty Cash after Aston Villa update
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Steven Gerrard has “trusty hands” capable of replacing injured Aston Villa star Matty Cash.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Ashley Young and Calum Chambers are both able deputies for the clash against Southampton on Friday (16 September).
The Poland international was substituted while clutching his hamstring in the first half of Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with Man City earlier this month (3 September).
The right-back has since revealed on Twitter (12 September) that he will not feature for his national side in their upcoming Nations League double-header against the Netherlands and Wales.
His countryman and teammate, Jan Bednarek, will play for The Eagles in their World Cup warm-up matches.
Cash, who was a standout performer in the 2021-22 campaign, has failed to score or assist in six outings this term.

Agbonlahor insisted the former Nottingham Forest man “hasn’t been in his best form” in the new campaign.
He told Football Insider’s Connor Whitley: “I don’t think it’ll worry Gerrard one bit.
“Matty Cash hasn’t been in his best form so far this season – plus you’ve only got one game on Friday before an international break for two weeks.
“It gives a chance for him to come back and regain his fitness.
“Gerrard has options. Ashley Young can play there, Chambers can play there – it’s not ideal, but Young did better when he came on than Cash has done for a lot of this season.
“Gerrard’s got trusty hands there.”
Young, now 37, replaced Cash against City and produced a commendable performance.
Chambers, 27, has made just one league start this term.
