Leeds backed to sign £20m-valued sensation likened to Foden

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Noni Madueke could be a good option for Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed the youngster would add competition for Jack Harrison and Raphinha.

Football Insider revealed on 2 June the Whites have reignited their interest in Madueke, who PSV Eindhoven now value at £20million.

The Premier League club were previously put off by PSV’s £25million valuation.

Madueke, 19, enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Erividise side last term as he scored seven goals and six assists in 24 games.

That led to a first call-up to the England Under-21 squad in March and then manager Aidy Boothroyd compared his rise to that of Phil Foden.

He has one Under-21 cap to his name after making his debut in a 2-0 defeat to Portugal in the Under-21 European Championships.

“He could be someone that they bring in to add competition to Jack Harrison and Raphinha,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Sometimes these young players have a lot to prove, they’ve got a lot of ambition. Sometimes they’re the better option than the older players because they want to prove themselves.

“Definitely, it’s a good idea. If he’s in the England Under-21s he’s going to be a very good player anyway.”

London-born Madueke began his career with Tottenham Hotspur before joining PSV in 2018.

He captained Spurs’ Under-16 side and made his Under-18 debut at 15 but moved to the Netherlands in search of regular first-team football.
