Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Jacob Murphy would be a "very good signing" for Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker claimed the 26-year-old could finally reach the potential he and his twin brother Josh promised at the beginning of their careers.

Newcastle United would demand a fee of £3million for the versatile winger who attracted the interest of Rangers last summer and in January.

He has gone on to make 25 appearances in all competitions this season, including 11 Premier League starts.

Asked whether the Englishman would be a good addition to Rangers' title-winning squad, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Definitely.

“They’ve always been talented, the two twins, I've known them a long time, but they haven’t really kicked on to where they should have done.

“If he was a squad player at Rangers, Steven Gerrard would get good use out of him.

“He would be a very good signing. I’m sure he can add a lot to that Rangers squad.”

Murphy has scored three goals and provided four assists in 54 Premier League games for Newcastle since arriving from boyhood club Norwich City in July 2017.

He broke onto the scene as a winger but has been deployed as a wing-back by Bruce this season and would offer Gerrard versatility.
