Agbonlahor: Newcastle United backed to complete 'perfect' James Maddison deal after new talks reveal
James Maddison would be a “perfect” signing for Newcastle United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Maddison would “suit” Newcastle’s style of play under Eddie Howe.
The midfielder, who turned 26 last week (23 November), is about to enter the final 18 months of his Leicester City contract and his long-term future is up in the air.
Newcastle tried to sign the England international in the summer transfer window and saw a bid of £50million knocked back by Leicester.
Sources told Football Insider earlier this year (24 September) that they are planning to submit a new offer for Maddison in January.
This site revealed last month (9 November) that the Toon have set aside a “huge sum” of money to spend in the winter window.

Maddison told England’s Lions Den show earlier this week (30 November) that he had discussed the “speculation” with Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope at the World Cup camp as well as Leicester’s game with Newcastle on Boxing Day.
“James Maddison would be perfect for Newcastle,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I think he suits what they are about and would fit nicely into that team.
“Maddison would be perfect.”
Maddison scored seven goals and provided the assist for a further four in 13 Premier League games before the World Cup.
His form saw him earn a recall to the England squad but he is yet to add to the solitary cap he won in November 2019.
In other news, Leeds United are plotting a move to re-sign a £100,000-a-week star from Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
