Agbonlahor salutes Gerrard after 'outstanding' Rangers news

John Lundstram is an “outstanding” player and a “great signing” for Rangers, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed the midfielder means the Gers are getting “stronger and stronger”.

Rangers confirmed on Monday (5 July) that Lundstram had signed a three-year deal with the club after leaving Sheffield United.

The 27-year-old spent the last four years with the Blades and played a key role as they earned promotion to the Premier League.

He ended his association with the Yorkshire giants with eight goals and nine assists in 120 appearances across all competition.

His former manager Chris Wilder revealed last October that he had rejected a very good offer to stay at Bramall Lane.

But Agbonlahor has suggested the pull of Rangers was just too much for the boyhood Liverpool fan.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “That’s the sort of business that Steven Gerrard’s good at.

“Steven Gerrard’s name, winning the Scottish Premiership and being at a big club like Rangers means they’re going to be able to sign these sorts of players.

“Lundstram, for me, was outstanding for Sheffield United. If they play to his strengths that’s a great signing.

“It just shows Rangers are getting stronger and stronger.”

Gerrard is preparing to lead Rangers into the Champions Leauge for the first time in over a decade this season.

He secured a historic 55th league title for the club last term and guided them to the Europa League Round of 16.
