Agbonlahor salutes 'perfect' Aston Villa transfer update

Aston Villa have the “perfect size” squad and no further signings are needed this summer.

That is the view of former Claret and Blue striker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Dean Smith’s recent comments about the club’s transfer activity.

As quoted by by club media on August 20th, Smith suggested there would be no further arrivals at Villa Park when he said the club are “comfortable” with their squad.

The 50-year-old also claimed his side are “stronger” than last season, despite the departure of the talismanic Jack Grealish to Man City.

Villa have added Danny Ings, Leon Bailey, Axel Tuanzebe, Ashley Young and Emiliano Buendia to their ranks this summer.

When asked if Villa needed further reinforcements, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley:

“I think the squad is fine as it is.

“You look at the midfield and you have McGinn, Nakamba, Luiz and Sanson. People have forgotten about Sanson but he is still to come back into the squad. You also have Jacob Ramsey.

“In terms of wingers you have El Ghazi, Traore, Bailey, Buendia and Ashley Young.

“Defensively, Tuanzebe offers cover at both centre-half and right-back so Dean Smith has got enough. For me, the squad is the perfect size.”

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Newcastle, Smith said: “We are comfortable with where we are, it’s a stronger squad than it was last season.”

The Premier League transfer window closes at 11pm on August 31st.
