Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Conor Coady is not the man Tottenham need to sort out their defence.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Spurs need a defender who cannot be beaten for pace in behind.

The Wolves captain has been mentioned during negotiations as Nuno suggests potential reinforcements.

Coady has been a stalwart at Molineux since arriving from Huddersfield Town in 2015 and missed just one Premier League game of Nuno's reign.

His fine performances earned him a first call up to the England squad last season and he is currently part of the squad at the European Championship.

Asked whether the 28-year-old is what Spurs' leaky defence needs, Agbonlahor delivered a three-word reply to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "No, no, no.

He added: "Spurs have got defenders like Conor Coady that are confident on the ball. Spurs need defenders that are rock solid as well as being confident on the ball but can't be beaten in behind.

"For me, no, Coady is not the defender that Tottenham need."

Tottenham conceded 45 goals and kept just 12 clean sheets in the Premier League last season.

Former manager Jose Mourinho failed to settle on a centre-back pairing with Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Joe Rodon all given runs in the side.
