Agbonlahor shares worrying Aston Villa claim after what he's heard from Villa Park

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested the intense atmosphere at Aston Villa home games is getting to the players.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer admitted the team may prefer playing away.

Dean Smith’s side are on a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats and there were audible groans during their most recent loss to West Ham at the weekend.

Villa have won twice, lost twice and drawn once in their five games at Villa Park this term.

That puts them 10th in the Premier League table based on home results.

“Sometimes people don’t understand, I played at Villa Park many, many times and when things aren’t going your way as a player it’s a tough place to play,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The crowd demand a lot, you’re under pressure and you can feel it sometimes.

“Some of these players are maybe now understanding it’s not always happy when you play at Villa Park.

“I had a few seasons where you’d rather play away from home because of the atmosphere of the ground. Maybe some of the players are starting to feel that now.

“There was a lot of groaning from the fans in games at Villa Park. The players have just got to think to themselves ‘Let’s just try and put in a performance’.

“Marvelous Nakamba put in a tackle against West Ham and it got the crowd going.”

After their trip to Southampton on Friday night, Aston Villa’s next home game is after the international break.

They host Brighton & Hove Albion on November 20.
