Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Leeds United are “three or four more players” away from mounting a top-six charge.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker suggested it’s an exciting time to be a Leeds fan as their summer plans are revealed.
Leeds did not sign anybody during the January transfer window but added Diego Llorente, Rodrigo Moreno, Robin Koch and Raphinha in the summer.
The quartet have had differing impacts on the squad and winger Raphinha is the only player of the four who is fit and available.
Despite their injury woes, Leeds have enjoyed an incredible first half of the season and currently sit 10th – seven points behind West Ham in sixth.
Asked whether the Yorkshire giants could launch a top-six push with more investment, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “With the new investment maybe they can spend some money, then definitely.
“Leeds aren’t that many players away – if they can get three or four more players in the right areas then definitely they can look at the top six.
“We’ve seen how well they’ve done this season and it’s basically a Championship side.
“There’s definitely room for improvement and it’s exciting for those Leeds fans.”
In Leeds’ last Premier League game against Crystal Palace, 10 of the starting XI represented the club in the Championship.
Of the starting team, it was only £17million addition, Raphinha, who had joined in the summer.
