Agbonlahor verdict on West Ham re-signing Lingard amid ESPN reveal
Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he was surprised Jesse Lingard did not sign for West Ham during the transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Lingard could now earn himself a new deal at Man United if he performs well.
The Hammers were desperate to bring the England international back to the London Stadium after his impressive loan spell last term.
According to Irons insider exWHUemployee, family reasons were behind the attacking midfielder opting against a return to the London Stadium.
In fact, BBC Sport reported yesterday (7 September) Lingard has rejected a new contract with Man United as he wants reassurances over playing time.
His current Old Trafford deal is currently set to expire at the end of the season after 12 months extension was triggered last month.

“I thought he would have definitely gone to West Ham,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I thought it was a deffo. To not see it happen was strange.
“Maybe he fancies his chances to break into the Manchester United first-team. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have told him he’s part of his plans. It’s a club that he loves.
“Maybe it’s one that happens in the future or he stays at Man United and plays. Then, he might earn a new contract.”
Lingard scored nine times and provided five assists in 16 Premier League games while on loan at West Ham last term.
He has featured just once in the top-flight for Man United this term – a four-minute cameo against Southampton.
