Ajeti backed for Celtic turnaround after transformation - pundit

Noel Whelan is backing Albian Ajeti to “shine” for Celtic next season after an impressive start to pre-season.

The former Aberdeen hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to Ajeti’s recent form.

Ajeti, 24, has scored in both of Celtic’s pre-season games against Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton.

The striker moved to Parkhead from West Ham last summer.

After scoring five in his first six league games, Ajeti only scored once more before the end of the season.

Whelan claims Ajeti has every chance to impress Ange Postecoglou and salvage his Celtic career.

“Everyone is out there to impress,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“There’s a new manager, a new start. There’s a fresh slate for some players who haven’t been given opportunities.

“It wasn’t a great season for Ajeti or anyone at Celtic. Look at the points difference between first and second.

“Now they have a point to prove, prove you’re not that bad. Prove it won’t be another bad season.

“He [Ajeti] didn’t hit the ground running after a big-money move, he had expectations on his shoulders.

“It’s the perfect start for him. He’s had that season now, his second season is the season where he should shine.

“Then we see why Celtic paid the money.”

Ajeti’s goal against Wednesday was the first under Postecoglou with the new boss overseeing Celtic’s summer training camp.

His first competitive game is fast approaching with a clash against FC Midtjylland on 20th July.
